Morzysław Lock (Ślesin Canal)

The Morzysław Lock is the first lock of the Ślesin Canal from the Warta side, part of the Great Loop of Greater Poland trail connecting the Warta with Lake Gopło.

Location and surroundings

The lock is located in the Morzysław district of Konin, at approx. km 0.43 of the Ślesin Canal, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

History

The Ślesin Canal was created between 1936 and 1949 by connecting a chain of post-glacial lakes with artificial cuttings; it was officially opened in November 1949. There are four locks on the canal: Morzysław, Pątnów, Gawrony and Koszewo. The Morzysław Lock was built in the late 1930s and modernised in 2011.

What to see

A lock 58 m long and 9.6 m wide, with a small drop, forming the start of the navigable Ślesin Canal from the Warta side.

Who it is for

An attraction for sailors and kayakers of the Great Loop of Greater Poland and lovers of hydro-engineering monuments.
