Wel River Kayak Trail

The Wel is a lowland lakeland river flowing through the Wel Landscape Park. The kayak trail runs from the village of Dąbrówno (the official start) and Szczupliny all the way to the mouth at Bratian — about 60 km in total through the park. The river has a varied character: on some sections it takes on the features of a mountain stream.

Location and surroundings

The route runs through the north-western part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Key villages along the trail: Szczupliny, Podcibórz, Lidzbark, Kurojady, Chełsty, Wądzyn.

What to see

The trail passes, among others, near the Piekiełko nature reserve. There are easy sections (Szczupliny–Podcibórz, Lidzbark–Kurojady), difficult ones (Dąbrówno–Szczupliny, Podcibórz–Lidzbark, Kurojady–Bratian) and very difficult stretches (around Wądzyn).

Who it is for

Due to the varying difficulty, the route is recommended for people with some experience; the easier sections are accessible to less experienced paddlers.

Facilities

The trail is marked with informational and warning signs. Details available from the administration of the Wel Landscape Park.
