Wigry Narrow-Gauge Railway

The Wigry Narrow-Gauge Railway is a former forest railway with a 600 mm gauge, operating on an approximately 9-kilometre route from Płociczno-Tartak to Krusznik, along the southern shore of Lake Wigry.

Location and surroundings

The route runs through the Wigry National Park, along Lake Wigry.

History

The railway was built between 1914 and 1916 as a German military forest railway for transporting timber. Until 1989 it was operated by the State Forests. It was reactivated as a tourist attraction in 2001. In Płociczno there is a Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum.

Stops: Binduga, Powały, Bartny Dół, Krusznik-Zielona Karczma. Open carriages in summer, heated in winter.
