The Bieszczady Forest Railway is one of the most spectacular narrow-gauge railways in Poland (750 mm gauge), operating from its base in Majdan near Cisna through the wild areas of the Bieszczady Mountains.
The railway runs in two directions from Majdan: west to Balnica (about 9 km) and east towards Przysłup and Dołżyca, through the forests and valleys of the Bieszczady.
The railway was built between 1890 and 1898 and launched on 21 January 1898. From 1953 it was used as a forest railway. Operations were suspended on 1 December 1994, and since July 1997 it has functioned as a tourist attraction on a shortened route, run by the Bieszczady Forest Railway Foundation.
An attraction for tourists visiting the Bieszczady; in 2024 it carried about 166,400 passengers - the most of all Polish narrow-gauge railways.
