Maltanka Park Railway

The Maltanka Park Railway is a 600 mm gauge narrow-gauge railway in Poznań, running along Lake Malta on an approximately 3.85 km route between the Maltanka station (Śródka roundabout) and Zwierzyniec station (by the New Zoo).

Location and surroundings

The route runs picturesquely along the shore of Lake Malta, near the Malta thermal baths and the New Zoo.

History

The railway opened on 22 July 1956 as the Poznań Children's Railway. In 1972 it was relocated to Malta and reopened on 21 July 1972 under the name Maltanka. It took its current name in 2002. It is managed by MPK Poznań.

Who it is for

A family attraction; it carries about 120,000 passengers a year. It is the only narrow-gauge railway in Poland equipped with automatic light signalling.
