Środa Narrow-Gauge Railway

The Środa Narrow-Gauge Railway (Środa County Railway) is a historic railway with a 750 mm gauge, running on the operating section Środa Wielkopolska Miasto - Zaniemyśl (approx. 14 km), operated with steam traction.

Location and surroundings

The route links Środa Wielkopolska with the lakeside resort town of Zaniemyśl.

History

The railway was built in 1898-1902 under the Prussian law on local railways, mainly to transport sugar beet. In 1949 it was incorporated into PKP, and in 1954 the gauge was standardised to 750 mm. Regular services ended in 2001. Since 2016 it has run seasonally as a tourist railway, operated by the Bana Society of Friends of the Środa Railway.
