The Underground Educational Route leads through a disused nickel, chrysoprase and opal mine in Szklary - a place of exceptional mineralogical significance.
The site is located in Szklary-Huta in the Ząbkowice Śląskie municipality, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, a few kilometres from Ząbkowice Śląskie.
The nickel ore mine operated from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; magnesite and gemstones - chrysoprases and opals - were also extracted here. The accessible section connects with the "Robert" shaft. Szklary is one of the few places in the world where green chrysoprases, milky-white opals and red carnelians occur; several dozen minerals have been documented from the region.
