The Włodarz complex is the largest of the discovered sites of the secret German "Riese" project from 1943-1945, dug into the massif of Mount Włodarz in the Owl Mountains. The total length of the excavated corridors exceeds 3 km, and a significant part of them is flooded with water.
Construction began in 1943 with the involvement of numerous forced labourers and prisoners of war. Like the other "Riese" sites, the complex was never completed, and its original purpose remains a matter of speculation (underground headquarters, armaments or research facilities).
The tourist route includes, among others, two underground halls, a boat ride through the flooded sections of the corridors, and an underground cinema showing a film about the "Riese" project. Visits are guided. The underground maintains a constant temperature of about 7-8°C.
