Museum of Iron Ore Mining

The Museum of Iron Ore Mining in Częstochowa (a branch of the Częstochowa Museum) is the only institution of its kind in Poland, presenting the history and development of iron ore mining. The underground exhibition is located in corridors dug in 1974-1976 between the museum's exhibition pavilions in the Rev. Stanisław Staszic Park.

Exhibition

The underground route is a complete, full-scale model of the workings most characteristic of iron ore mining. It includes drift workings with wooden and steel supports, a pump chamber and a section of a working face, equipped with original mining equipment coming, among others, from mines in the Częstochowa region (Rudniki, Wręczyca, Barbara, Szczekaczka).

Significance

The permanent exhibition "The history of iron ore mining" commemorates the centuries-old extraction tradition characteristic of the Częstochowa region. Since 2009 the site has been on the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
