Railway Bridge over Lake Pilchowickie

A steel truss bridge with an arched structure, spanning 40 m above the surface of Lake Pilchowickie. It is about 151.7 m long and 4 m wide, with a main arch spanning approximately 135 m.

Location and surroundings

The bridge is located near the village of Strzyżowiec (Wleń municipality, Lower Silesian Voivodeship), on a picturesque section of the Bóbr Valley Railway. Coordinates: approx. 50.96511°N, 15.65817°E.

History

Built in 1905-1906 as part of the Jelenia Góra-Żagań line. It originally spanned a dry valley; after the Pilchowice dam opened in 1912, a lake formed beneath the bridge. The official opening took place on 16 November 1912 in the presence of Emperor Wilhelm II. Entered into the register of monuments (no. A/6180) on 18 August 2020.

What to see

The bridge became famous in 2020 in connection with film plans (Mission: Impossible 7). Line 283 has been out of service since 2016.
