Road Bridge in Tczew

A historic bridge over the Vistula in Tczew, at the time of its construction the longest bridge in Europe. It is about 1,052 m long, with 12 spans.

Location and surroundings

The bridge connects Tczew with the village of Lisewo Malborskie over the Vistula (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Coordinates: approx. 54.09268°N, 18.80597°E.

History

Erected in 1851-1857; the designers included Friedrich August Stüler (portals and towers) as well as Carl Lentze and Rudolf Schinz. The cornerstone was laid on 27 July 1851 and it opened on 12 October 1857. Damaged on 1 September 1939, it was rebuilt and reopened on 8 March 1947. Entered into the register of monuments (A-1705).
