Railway Bridge in Bytów

A historic former railway bridge over the Boruja River in Bytów, modelled on Roman aqueducts. It is about 73.45 m long, up to 16 m high, with six brick arched spans on stone-and-granite supports.

Location and surroundings

The bridge is located in Bytów in Kashubia (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Coordinates: approx. 54.16181°N, 17.48264°E.

History

Built around 1884 as part of the Bytów-Korzybie (Miastko) line. It served a railway function for about 30 years, after which the line was moved onto an embankment around 1909. The pillars are decorated with sandstone medallions bearing the coats of arms of the Reich, Prussia, Pomerania, Bytów and the railway. Entered into the register of monuments (A-1624) in 1997. Restored in 2017-2019, it is now a pedestrian footbridge.
