Bridges (Viaducts) in Stańczyki

Two twin parallel railway viaducts known as the Aqueducts of the Romincka Forest, among the tallest bridges in Poland. Each is about 180 m long, with five reinforced-concrete arched spans and a height of up to 36.5 m.

Location and surroundings

The site is in the village of Stańczyki (Dubeninki municipality, Gołdap County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship), over the valley of the Błędzianka River. Coordinates: approx. 54.29744°N, 22.65461°E.

History

The southern bridge was built in 1912-1914 (completed 1917), the northern one in 1918, as part of the Gołdap-Żytkiejmy line. The architecture references Roman aqueducts (Pont du Gard). Entered into the register of monuments (no. 33) in 1979. They now serve as a tourist attraction.
