Stone Bridge in Kalisz

The oldest existing bridge in Kalisz - a Classicist, single-span stone bridge over the Prosna, with cast-iron balustrades. It is about 23.3 m long and 8.1 m wide.

Location and surroundings

The bridge lies along Śródmiejska Street, between the central districts of Kalisz (Greater Poland Voivodeship). Coordinates: approx. 51.76106°N, 18.08703°E.

History

Built from March 1824 to August 1825 under the direction of Franciszek Reinstein, to the design of Sylwester Szpilowski; it replaced an earlier drawbridge. The coats of arms of Kalisz and inscriptions were placed on the plinths. Entered into the register of monuments in 1964, renovated in 2013.
