Stanisław Markiewicz Viaduct in Warsaw

A Neo-Renaissance road viaduct linking the upper and lower sections of Karowa Street (from Krakowskie Przedmieście to Powiśle on the Vistula).

Location and surroundings

The viaduct is located on Karowa Street in Warsaw (Masovian Province). Coordinates: approx. 52.24306°N, 21.01833°E.

History

The design was approved in 1902 and construction was carried out in 1903-1905 (opened in 1905). Structure: Karol Sommer, architecture: Stefan Szyller, sculptural decoration: Jan Woydyga. It was entered in the register of monuments (reg. no. 681) in 1965. A thorough renovation in 2006-2007 restored the original cobblestones and decorative lanterns.
