Railway viaduct over the Bóbr in Jelenia Góra

A railway bridge in Borowy Jar, an important part of the railway line connecting Jelenia Góra with Zgorzelec and Berlin. The original masonry 8-span viaduct was opened on 9 September 1866.

History

  • In May 1945, retreating German troops blew up the bridge.
  • Between 1951 and 1954 a new viaduct was built - regarded as one of the most beautiful in Poland.

Present structure

A reinforced concrete structure supported on a single elliptical arch about 33 m above the Bóbr river, with additional spans.
