Post Mill in Tykocin

A wooden post mill from 1887, nearly 13 m high with a base of about 6.5 x 7 m, located in the historic town of Tykocin in Podlasie, at the junction of Klasztorna and Kochanowskiego streets.

History

The former mill was built in 1887. It was one of four windmills belonging, before the war, to members of the Jewish community of Tykocin. Since 1980 the structure has been listed in the register of monuments.

Condition and visiting

The mill is preserved in very good condition, although its sails have not survived. It is currently not possible to enter inside - the structure can only be admired from the outside. Its silhouette recalls the region's farming traditions.
