Dutch (tower) windmill in Jankowo Dolne

A brick tower-type Dutch windmill from 1896, situated on a hill in the eastern part of the village of Jankowo Dolne near Gniezno. A unique industrial technology monument on the scale of Greater Poland.

Location and surroundings

The windmill stands on a rise, on the northern side of the district road, west of national road no. 15. It is surrounded by fields and meadows, with a former inn nearby.

History and condition

Built on a circular plan 6.5 m in diameter. The brick tower has survived to this day; the rotating cap (head) together with the sails did not survive. Dutch windmills were a rarity in this area - they made up about 3% of all windmills, as cheaper hollow-post mills and post windmills predominated. The site is listed in the register of monuments.
