Dutch windmill in Palczewo

A wooden-and-brick Dutch-type windmill built around 1800 in the eastern part of the village of Palczewo in the Vistula Fens (Żuławy Wiślane). It is the only preserved Dutch-type windmill in the Żuławy region that milled grain.

Construction

  • A regular octagon plan; the lower part built of brick, the upper storeys with half-timbered (framework) walls.
  • A rotating roof covered with shingles; a five-storey tower with preserved milling equipment.

History

  • It worked as a grain windmill until 1958.
  • In 1956 it was entered in the register of monuments (no. 38, decision of 17 February 1956).
  • In the 1960s it passed into private hands; the sails were not restored.
