Rolling Mill - Museum of Zinc Metallurgy

The Rolling Mill in Katowice-Szopienice is a historic zinc rolling mill from the early 20th century, now a museum of zinc metallurgy. It is the only place in Silesia with a preserved authentic production line for zinc sheet. The site belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.

History

The rolling mill was built in 1903-1904 and 1916-1917. It belonged to the Georg von Giesches Erben group, one of the largest zinc producers in the world at the time. The site was entered in the register of historic monuments in 2010, and the museum opened in 2015.

An original zinc rolling production line is presented, along with additional exhibitions (including historic motorcycles and agricultural machinery).
